Natalie Hopkins hears the voices of plants, a gift she brings to Olympus after her father shattered her mother Hannah's spine a decade earlier. She competes to nanny Austin, the son of storm goddess Sophia, because the winner receives divine grace that could restore Hannah's legs. Apollo blocks her path with three lethal trials — a lake ringed by fire, a blazing path where water must not spill, and a ranch of savage dogs — yet Natalie passes each by confronting terror with calm. She revives the dying Austin with a single silver needle, earning the gods' approval, then awakens Sophia from postpartum madness and helps her reclaim divine power. Publicly, Natalie exposes Sophia's faithless husband Bryce and his lover Lucy. Zeus assigns a new mission: redeem Karen, a demigod who has abandoned hope. Natalie takes him to a human cemetery and proves his mother never left him, turning his black divine power to gold. Apollo shifts from exile to quiet guardian, tending Hannah for months. After the trials end, Hannah stands again, and Natalie chooses Apollo, the two confessing their true feelings.
