Cake artist Penelope is hospitalized after stress-eating sweets when fiancé Adam ends their engagement publicly. Dr. Patel helps her recognize her intrinsic value beyond the relationship. Upon release, she learns Adam is now with Sophia, who has launched a parfait shop imitating Penelope's aesthetic. Instead of competing directly, Penelope opens an ugly cake bakery on Chicago's South Side that celebrates flawed appearances. The concept resonates with customers who embrace imperfection. Adam later attempts reconciliation, but Penelope stays composed, while Sophia eventually learns the ugly cake technique from her, transforming their rivalry into friendship.
