After years of neglect from her father and brother, Stephanie Grant is rescued from bullying by mafia boss Edwin Carlson, who publicly claims her as his love. He builds her a castle, fills it with tulips, and stages a headline-making wedding. Seven months pregnant, Stephanie attends her father's birthday party where a fire erupts. Her family rescues only her sister Kelsey, who has leukemia, leaving Stephanie to burn until Edwin carries her out. In the hospital, Stephanie overhears Edwin arguing with her relatives: he married her solely so their child could provide bone marrow for Kelsey.
