Lane's Past and Ophelia's Secret Drive the Story
Lane Risks His Hidden History
Lane enters the chamber of commerce as a guard, but his position threatens to expose the past he left behind in the mountains. His prodigious magic draws attention from rival factions, turning a protective role into a spotlight he cannot afford. Every use of power to settle disputes risks revealing the origins he works to keep buried, placing his anonymity on the line.
Ophelia Holds the Missing Piece
Childhood friend Ophelia reappears with an undisclosed true identity that reframes their shared history. She is not simply a familiar face; the narrative positions her as the key to the power game surrounding Lane. Her concealed nature suggests she has operated within the rivalries long before his arrival, making her the only person who can explain why he sits at the center.
Commerce Chamber Becomes a Battlefield
The chamber of commerce functions as more than a workplace; it is the arena where rivalries converge on Lane. His guard duties force direct engagement with the factions manipulating events from the shadows. Navigating these conflicts requires him to deploy the very abilities that endanger his secrecy, creating a loop where survival depends on the magic that invites discovery.
