Elizabeth watches her security alerts and sees the backyard gate unlock every Wednesday, leading her to suspect Richard is unfaithful. She changes the code, leaves a note, and sets a camera, capturing a woman named Catherine struggling with the locked latch. Confrontation and divorce papers follow until Richard explains Catherine is a former classmate borrowing cash for her daughter Lily's leukemia treatments. The anger dissolves; Elizabeth empties their savings for the medical bills and stands beside them through Lily's surgery. After the child recovers and Catherine secures steady work, the two households grow close. Elizabeth posts a new note pledging ongoing support, and later opens her front door to another desperate parent on a stormy night.
