Michigan beekeeper Betsy Moreno discovers her husband Carl has been diluting her honey and treating the apiary with fipronil to destroy the operation so he can sell the land and flee with his mistress. She gathers the evidence and releases it publicly instead of pursuing a drawn-out court fight. The exposure collapses Carl's reputation, forcing a divorce that leaves Betsy in full control of the farm. The resulting publicity expands her business, and she declines outside management deals to remain independent. She hires single mothers who have been abandoned or abused, teaching them beekeeping so they can achieve financial freedom and self-worth, then formalizes the effort as a nationwide training program. Her guiding principle is that bees never lie, leading her to sue counterfeit honey producers and donate all compensation to a startup fund for single mothers.
