After a plane crash, pilot Ethan awakens in a foreboding castle populated by grotesque monsters. A rare cognitive condition causes him to perceive every inhabitant as stunningly attractive men and women, eliminating his fear. He advances to the castle's summit, forming an unconventional family with a vampire queen, a childlike monster named Mia, and a gentle elderly undead couple. His sincere kindness heals their ancient emotional wounds, allowing him to gather thirty visitor cards needed for the exit. The escape door demands four loving hearts to open, prompting his monstrous companions to sacrifice their own hearts so he can return home. Before parting, he names the vampire queen Phoenix as a symbol of rebirth and enduring love.
