Rosa, a 43-year-old Mexican immigrant, works in a Chicago hotel laundry to fund her daughter's dance aspirations. When she discovers her supervisor Frank and his HR relative have been skimming overtime wages, language barriers prevent a direct complaint. Instead, Rosa creates explicit illustrations of the fraud and circulates them covertly among coworkers. The drawings ignite collective action from more than forty women, compelling the hotel manager to fire the perpetrators and restore all stolen pay. Rosa is then chosen to head a payroll oversight committee, begins learning English, and starts conducting labor-rights workshops for immigrant workers. Her advocacy grows into a respected voice for workplace dignity, inspiring her daughter to pursue social work rooted in the power of solidarity.
