Meng Wanqing has served as a living blood supply for her sister Meng Yuqing since childhood, a role arranged by their parents Meng Weilong and Chen Yan. Yuqing manipulates the household by faking ailments, turning the family — including brother Meng Feng — against Wanqing. Even Li Xusheng, the sole person who treated Wanqing kindly, only courted her to secure an engagement to Yuqing. Following that betrayal, Wanqing is reborn and escapes overseas. She inadvertently rescues the vacationing relatives of the world's wealthiest man, the Shens, who adopt her as a goddaughter. Their heir Shen Tingzhou falls in love with her, and she slowly returns his affection. Back home, the Mengs uncover Yuqing's decades of lies and disown her, then plead for Wanqing's return, but she refuses. In a final confrontation, Yuqing kidnaps Wanqing; Li Xusheng is shot protecting her and enters a vegetative state, while Yuqing is imprisoned. The Mengs finally let Wanqing go, and she marries Shen Tingzhou.
