Bomb disposal specialist Elena returns to Sterling Harbor and immediately confronts a nightmare: her son Oliver and her husband Grant's foster sister Blair are both rigged with explosives. Grant compels Elena to defuse Blair's device by threatening her mother Diane, leaving Oliver to die in the blast. Afterward, Grant reveals their marriage was a sham designed to protect Blair. Elena files for divorce and investigates, only to be framed for Oliver's death, watch her mother driven to suicide by a hidden recording, see their ashes desecrated, suffer color-vision loss in a fireworks explosion, and endure the final insult of her mother's remains turned into a memorial diamond. Stripped of everything, she prepares to leave Sterling Harbor and exact retribution on those who destroyed her life.
