A house fire at age five halted Stella's mental development, trapping her at a kindergartner's level. Thirteen years later, her parents departed for her younger sister's graduation trip after shutting off electricity and water. Inside the darkening house, food rotted while Stella placed four unanswered calls for help. As starvation approached, neighbor Grace forced entry and rescued her. The intervention triggered a staggering recovery: Stella reclaimed 13 years of lost cognition, graduated from an Ivy League university, and founded Starlight Counseling to shelter other traumatized children.
