Marvin spent eight years believing he and Hannah shared repeated pregnancy losses, only to uncover that every miscarriage was fabricated. The child she now carries was conceived with Jack, her adopted brother, solely to provide a cure for his illness. Devastated, Marvin signs divorce papers and accepts a classified national assignment that will erase his identity. Before he can disappear, Hannah forces him to kneel, strikes him, and threatens his grandfather's safety, subjecting him to three days of silent endurance.
