Seven-year-old orphan Evie navigates life through a private chromatic code: benevolent people radiate red while cruel ones bleed black. When her reborn best friend accepts placement with an affluent couple, Evie instead embraces the impoverished Carter household and their son Noah, a boy who has abandoned hope. Onlookers dismiss her decision as foolish, yet the wealthy family's immaculate facade soon fractures, exposing corruption that wealth cannot mask. Evie's color-guided choice leads her toward genuine belonging rather than gilded illusion.
