Eight-year-old Lily receives a terminal cancer diagnosis and deliberately becomes difficult, believing her awful behavior will cushion her family against the devastation of losing her. She dies, but her spirit remains earthbound and inhabits the body of a house cat. From this new perspective, she observes the household's quiet routines and the grief she tried to preempt.
