Penny, a 26-year-old baker, unravels into depression and dangerous binge eating after her fiancé abandons her for being too sweet. A hospital stay becomes the catalyst for change when she bakes a cracked pound cake and, instead of throwing it away, decides to sell it. She founds The Failed Cake Shop, an online business offering only flawed desserts accompanied by candid, comforting messages. The venture resonates deeply, growing into a local sanctuary. Over seven years, Penny expands the operation, hiring others who identify as failures and creating a space where imperfect treats help an entire neighborhood embrace self-acceptance.
