Ava Moretti spent nine years trusting Luca Conti and his family's protective oath until the Petrov brothers abducted her for a six-hundred-thousand-dollar ransom. Luca, influenced by Valentina Russo, refused payment and left her imprisoned for three months as a lesson in obedience. She eventually fled barefoot to Manhattan, deeply traumatized. While Luca misreads her suffering as defiance, Dante Vitale, the Conti security chief and former detective, steps forward as her true guardian. When Valentina's hand in the kidnapping emerges and Luca's remorse arrives too late, Ava turns toward the man who saved her rather than the Don who abandoned her.
