Jessamine devoted nine years to rebuilding Dashiell Carrington from an injured, undrafted prospect into captain of the New York Comets, sacrificing her own career to manage his rehabilitation, public image, and creative work. He repaid her loyalty by having an affair with his young content producer, giving the woman Jessamine's proprietary training program, and publicly praising his family while his pregnant wife faced a medical emergency alone. A forgotten live microphone captured his private remarks, and Jessamine secured the recording. After confronting his mother, who chairs the team's board, with her departure, Jessamine left behind their shared home and memorabilia, taking only her rehabilitation journals, passport, and unpublished manuscript. Half a year later, she assumed the Comets presidency under her first name alone.
