Crown Princess Astrid dies by poison from fiancé Erik and confidant Silas on coronation eve. Her soul strikes a bargain with the Norns, sacrificing human warmth for black magic and resurrection in the frozen north. She forms an alliance with Ragnar, the late king's illegitimate son and a brutal warlord. She contributes sorcery and strategy; he provides an army and a searing body temperature that alone halts her spreading ice curse. Disguised as a priestess, she infiltrates the capital, using mind-reading and desire magic to unravel her betrayers. Every spell drains her life, requiring Ragnar's intimate heat to survive, forging a taboo bond amid vengeance.
