Winnie Morris operates a Chicago shop repairing wool sweaters that carry hidden romantic histories. When Irene brings a moth-eaten cardigan from her husband Harold, who disappeared four decades earlier, Winnie locates him in a California nursing home with Alzheimer's. Though his memory has faded, his body still responds to the garment. Winnie stitches a golden heart over the sweater's hole, symbolically bridging their separation. After both Irene and Harold pass away, the sweater returns to Winnie through Irene's granddaughter. Meanwhile, Winnie discovers unsent letters from her own long-absent father, resolving her deep resentment. The shop evolves into a sanctuary where golden thread mends both fabric and fractured lifetimes.
