At the height of her fame, a pop diva dies onstage and immediately wakes up in 1987 Kansas inside the body of Brenda, a heavy-set woman known for cruelty toward her stepchildren. Refusing to repeat the original Brenda's grim destiny, the diva's consciousness shields the children from harm while quietly shedding weight and reigniting her own musical ambitions. Her transformation draws relentless sabotage from Gwen, a jealous local rival who repeatedly frames Brenda for scandal.
