Federation vocalist Evelyn accepts a frontier goodwill tour that turns into an insectoid ambush, sending her ship down on the toxic waste world K-17. Carlisle, disowned heir of the powerful Wayne dynasty, pulls her from the wreckage. Initial hostility shifts to survival partnership as they battle swarms, a collapsing mine, and a staged rescue operation. Carlisle discovers Evelyn's pheromones uniquely suppress his genetic rage episodes. Her mother's necklace then identifies her as the final royal descendant of the fallen dynasty and the key to its ancient defense network. Back on the capital planet, they orchestrate a false engagement with Adrian to lure out the Kelwen family, long compromised by insectoids masquerading as humans. Patriarch Augustus serves as host to the insect matriarch. The invaders unleash the Homing Plan; Carlisle commands the Wayne fleet while Evelyn reactivates the dormant defense system. Together they repel the assault. At the victory ceremony, Augustus accuses Wayne of collusion; they reverse the charge and publicly execute the insect mother. Carlisle's succession is restored; Evelyn refuses the throne; the two finally acknowledge their bond.
